Can A Facial Ruin Your Face?

The purpose of a basic facial is simple, its a multi-step skin treatment that involves cleansing, exfoliation, extraction and a mask. That my friends, is a basic facial and thats what I thought I was going to receive from a licensed Esthetician.

I had some breakouts on my cheek and I wanted a good extraction to help get rid of the impurities. This "facialist" was recommended to me as she is known to get every single blackhead and pimple out of your face. Unfortunately, what I received was some scaring and even more breakouts than I had in the first place. The sad thing is this all could have been avoided if I just went to my regular Esthetician who has extracted me many times, always leaving my skin better than she found it. The "she will squeeze the hell out of your face" sounded so appealing though... 

 Can a facial ruin your face? Absolutely it can. The main cause is trusting your face onto inexperienced hands but even licensed Estheticians can ruin your skin. In Esthetics school I learned that being "licensed' means that you paid thousands of dollars to get a certificate and you passed a test. However, in Esthetics school I came across so many of these woman that in all honesty did not deserve to graduate and be able to head out in the world with a license to ruin peoples face. I loved everyone in my class, but the truth is the truth and the truth and some of them should have chosen a different career (which some of them realized and did shortly after graduation) 

I want you to be clear that having a license does not make anyone an expert. What makes an Esthetician an expert is years of practice but most important is understanding moderation. Knowing what is ok to extract and when its best to leave alone is a true testament of a skilled Esthetician and always making sure that the skin is left better than it was when you found it. 

Another way your skin can get ruined by facials is by over treating it with harsh chemicals and peels. Beware of these Estheticians as well, you want to make sure that the two of you are crystal clear on what your goals are and a smart and safe way of achieving them. Facials can be very expensive, and I understand that you want to get the most out of your money, but trust me thats not the best approach to have when it comes to a facial. 

Last but not least DO NOT let anyone without a license touch your face... I know you are probably thinking "Steffany didn't you just say the whole licensed thing didn't matter?" Well it does, because that license will protect you. It is whats going to tell you that at the very least this person learned some basic sanitation. Having that knowledge will hopefully keep you from leaving there with an infection. 

My Dermatologist and I were speaking the other day and he was telling me how he had a patient come to him for a "pimple" that never healed after a facial. It wasn't a pimple at all, it was basal cell cancer. He also told me about patients with chemical burns that now have to spend thousands of dollars in laser treatment to correct the damage. 

My advise to all of you is simple, do your research and get multiple opinions. If you are dealing with breakouts on a regular basis start by addressing your health and or see a dermatologist. They are not exempt from making mistakes when treating you but the odds are less. Don't let the price of something be what convinces you to do a treatment, find a great Esthetician that will care for your skin and help you achieve your skin goals safely.

The Makeup Eraser Review!

I finally decide to try the Makeup Eraser and I'm SOLD! My hesitation was obvious, I thought it was another "trendy" product that popular bloggers where talking about that would eventually end up being another too good to be true product. Well I was walking in sephora completely uninspired and unmotivated to buy makeup, yes one of those very uncommon days..... I decided to pick this and another product. If you follow me on Snapchat you know I have been on a no makeup month and so this sat on my vanity for a few weeks. 

Today I took the dust off my makeup brushes and decided to look put together, and I finally got my chance to try this makeup eraser towel. I had a full face of makeup and after wiping my face a few times with the towel wet my makeup was completely off. I was impressed but not completely sold, it still had to pass the toner test. I could not believe it guys The cotton pad was completely clean!!! I swear even after washing my face with face wash a few times I never had pass the toner test.

Too Faced Hangover Rx Replenishing Face Primer Review!

I tried this primer from too faced with high hopes, but unfortunately it did not work for me. My first impression when first pumping it in my hand was the smell, I did not like it at all. I love coconut but this smell is more like a rancid piña colada. Then there was how itchy my face was, I think I must be sensitive to an ingredient in it. I decided to still put makeup on just to see if I noticed a difference and if the the itch would go away but I did not. The itchiness got too uncomfortable so I watched my face, which was left red an irritated. 

Overall I would suggest you try it for yourself, the reviews I read mostly raved about how great their makeup looked over this primer and the smell being divine. For me it was a completely different experience. I will be returning this one back to sephora and trying out another primer.... Which one do you guys like?

I took major advantage of Sephoras 20% off event last week to purchase some of the products I have been hesitant to buy but found over priced. I had my eyes on the Glamglow masks for some time, but I'm very picky when it comes to skincare products. My skin has been acting pretty good lately with the occasional little break out here or there, not complaining at all since I know it can be 10 times worst.

This gifts set is amazingly priced at $69 and its worth every penny, I have been using the cleanser at night time to remove my makeup and it does a really good job at removing my makeup and exfoliating my skin but also super dry so I will not be using this everyday. The masks are really with all the hype, I tried the Youthmud first and my skin was glowing, like even my husband commented on how great my skin looked. 

Today I tried the Supermud clearing treatment and wow I LOVE it too, I could actually see it working on deep cleaning my pores. After 10 minutes I rinsed off and my skin looked so much brighter and clearer, I took a picture (below) right after to show you the results. The kit comes with a dual ended applicator brush and it helps you pick up the product from the jar and apply it effortlessly. 

Overall I am really happy with this purchase and will definitely be adding it to my beauty routine and even in my studio to use on clients!

Exfoliate Using This Awesome DIY Body Scrub For An Unbelievable Soft And Toned Body!

I don't know what it is but I swear as soon as the weather starts turning cold my skin rurns into the Sahara desert. Which means I have to switch to a more moisturizing skin care regime but the richer products while solving one issue brings up another..... Clogged skin!!! The Only way I can keep my skin feeling and looking healthy is by exfoliating at least three times a week and moisturizing  every morning and before bed. 

Below is one of my favorite diy scrubs, it's amazing and it also helps tone your skin, which improves cellulite and helps clear out acne. Try and do this scrub at least twice a week and focus on your problem areas. Moisturize immediately after and you won't believe how amazing you skin will look and feel! 

Ingredients:

• 3 cups ground coffee of you choice
• 1 tablespoon sea salt
• 3 tablespoons brown sugar
• 2 tablespoons coconut oil (cooled or melted)
• 2 tablespoons vitamin e oil

Directions:

Mix all your ingredients together until you get a consistent pasty, scrub-like texture. This is a larger batch, so you can use and store the rest in a Tupperware or ziplock bag to use again. 

My Current Skincare Routine Great For Combination Acne-Prone Skin!

If you have been following my blog for some time now you probably now my skin struggles, if you not.... I'll catch you up; I had THE worst adult acne breakout ever! I tried everything and was even put on antibiotics by my dermatologist. I cleared up my face and Im happy to say my face is back to normal (occasional) breakouts and no excessive oils.

The key for me has been to not over stimulate my skin, I only scrub if I'm using a lot of makeup on those days. I can't say enough how important staying hydrated is to your whole well being, but the first place that you start to feel and see a difference is your skin. the post is already long so let me know if you would like my review on any particular one and I can do that on another post! 

The Best Concealers For Covering Dark Circles, Blemishes, And Tattoos!

I think we can all agree when I say that concealer is THE most important makeup we use, specially if like me you have dark circles or any blemish, scar or even tattoo you want to cover. I was going thru my makeup stash, organizing and getting rid of some colors that no longer work for me and decided to share with you all my most used concealer of all times on my self and clients. I will list them in no particular order.

The one thing these concealers all have in common is they carry that perfect peachy tone that is necessary to cancel out (blue) dark circles. The second thing they all have in common is they are super pigmented which means a little bit goes a looooong way. Last but not least they are all available in stores and have a great range of colors...... Now to the breakdown of each one:

1. Nars Concealer is creamy, long-wearing, crease-resistant, and ultra-light yet opaque helps me achieve a flawless finish. I have replaced this concealer twice and for me that a big deal! 
2. Mac Studio Conceal and Correct palette is perfect to use on my clients, but I purchased one for personal use as well. With this palette I can rest assure to always have the right colors and whats even better it comes with two color correcting colors, the yellow one is great for brightening and the orange for canceling out dark circles. 
3. Tarte Maracuja Creaseless Concealer.... remember I said a little goes a long way with these concealers, well with this one you definitely want to ha a light hand, or you will be blending forever! 
4. Kat Von D Lock- it Concealer is my go to for super heavy coverage, like tattoos and scars, for dark circles not so much on me personally but my super oily skin clients RAVE about it. Its super pigmented, water and transfer resistant.
5. Bobbi Brown Creamy Concealer Kit this is my go to for a quick and fuss free makeup application, it blends smoothly. It does a good job at canceling out and brightening my dark circles and blending in with the rest of my face. 
6. Maybelline Instant Age Rewind Eraser Dark Circle Treatment Concealer, the name of this product says it all! Its an all in one, conceal and treat your dark circles. I love using this anytime I feel like skipping a few steps in my beauty routine. It cancels out my dark circles and sets fairly quick which helps it not crease. 

The number one question I always get asked is how to avoid creasing, and while these concealers are great if you don't set them (or any) with powder they will move through the day. My next post will be all about setting powders ;) 

This Winter Get More Beautiful Skin And Hair/ Este Invierno Obtengan Una Piel Mas Hermosa Y cabello Mas Saludable!

I dont know about you, but I was not excited about winter this year. However I find that I am so much more motivated to work out, try out new skin treatments and let my hair rest. Below is a list of things that are better to do in the cold season.

• Try a new skin care routine, your skin probably feels drier and tighter.  The skin needs more moisture and richer so the light-oil free products might not be sufficient. 

• Add Retinol to your skin care. They're great for wrinkles and acne, but sun exposure can cause photosensitivity, so winter is best time to test them out but don't forget you still need to apply sunscreen. 

• Grow your hair! Taking supplements like biotin  may help... but they may also stimulate body-hair growth! so try them in the winter when you are no bare-legged or sleeveless. 

• Try a darker hue! Darker hair color looks healthier.

I did not use this as they recommend, the facial clothes are best to keep for on the go makeup remover, or those night when we are too tired to wash our face. I used the cloths on a few occasions and I really liked it, it does what it claims and left my skin feeling clean. The anti blemish gel however did nothing to help my blemishes heal faster. Out of the two I would definitely repurchase the cloths and not the Anti-blemish gel.

Product Review: Smashbox Photo Finish Blemish Control Primer!

Smashbox have some of the best primers in the market, and this blemish control one is no different.  It an amazing oil free primer with two percent salicylic acid to combat acne and exfoliate and helps even out skin with time. I love its silky feel and my foundation goes on smoothly and evenly. I have to say that I have definitely been breaking out A LOT less but I cant say is necessarily from using this primer only as I am on another skin care products that might be helping too. I definitely recommend this primer for oily-acne prone skins or even rough skins looking for a good two in one product for smother skin. 

Smashbox tienen algunos de los mejores primers en el mercado, y este con acne control uno no es diferente. Es un increíble libre de aceite primer con ácido salicílico, dos por ciento al combate acné y exfoliar y ayuda incluso aclarar la piel con el tiempo. Me encanta su tacto sedoso y mi base continúa suave y uniformemente. Tengo que decir que he estado definitivamente sufriendo menos de acné fuera pero no puedo decir que es necesariamente del uso de este primer sólo como estoy en otro productos de cuidado de piel que podrían estar ayudando  también. Definitivamente recomiendo esta cartilla para pieles con tendencia acneica y aceitoso o incluso pieles buscando un buen dos en un solo producto para una piel mas suave y uniforme.

This Makes Makes My Skin Bright And Even!

I get so excited when I come across products like this. I have been looking for a serum to add to my skin care routine and this one is so highly rated on Amazon that I had to try it for myself. After adding it to my skin care routine I can definitely tell a difference! my skin looks more even, bright and more toned. My discolorations have definitely faded and when I break out it heals faster! Im so happy with the results and I will definitely be keeping this as a permanent skincare product!

Apple Cider Vinegar Hair Rinse

Apple cider not only removes hair residue and built up from the products we use it also works by closing the cuticle of the hair, which makes light reflect off it... in other words it makes our hair super shiny and look and feel healthier!

Ingredients:
1 Part Water
1 Part ACV

How To:
I like to use a container with a spray nozzle but this is optional you can use anything you want to mix the apple cider vinegar and water together. After I shampoo I spray the mixture into my hair and massage it into my scalp and make sure my ends are nice and covered with the ACV rinse. I let it sit on my hair for a few minutes before rinsing fully with water. I do apply a conditioning mask after because my hair is super dry from bleaching it, but I used to be able to only use this as my conditioner because it does detangle and leave your hair feeling smooth and soft.

Me gusta usar un recipiente con una boquilla spray pero esto es opcional, que puedes usar algo que mezcle el vinagre de sidra de manzana y el agua. Después del champú rocíe la mezcla en el pelo y masajear el cuero cabelludo y asegúrese de que las puntas está cubiertos con el enjuague de ACV. Lo dejo reposar unos minutos antes de enjuagar completamente con agua en mi pelo. Aplicar una máscara después porque mi cabello es super seco por el descolorante, pero solía ser capaz de utilizar esto como mi acondicionador porque desenredar el cabello y deja el cabello liso y suave.

One part ACV mixed with two parts water creates a refreshing toner that leaves your skin glowing. It works works best when used after cleansing, and don't worry the vinegar smell will dissipate after a few minutes. For those with sensitive skin you might want to dilute the solution further. 

Tónico Facial de vinagre de sidra de manzana

Apple Cider Vinegar Foot Soak

 Apple cider vinegar is also great for treating our rough, dry, cracking heels so many of us have. The acid in vinegar, aetic acid, is very gentle but it softens rough heels very well. 

Ingredients:
1/4 cup of apple cider vinegar
A basin of warm water 

How To:
Gently scrub the feet while soaking for 10-15 minutes. Soaking too often or for too long will make the feet look worse so don't over due it and if you have a lot of calluses try breaking it into 10-15 minute sessions, 3 times a week. This also helps with smelly feet, and athletes foot!

Cómo:
